Virginia, or Ginny as she likes to be called, was born in
Pittsfield, MA. She moved south with her parents and older
brother when she was 3 months old. After the move, she lived
in Atlanta for 3 years and later in Jacksonville, Florida.
Ginny has a long family background in the Presbyterian Church. Although Ginny's dad was raised a Baptist, he married the daughter of a Presbyterian minister and before long, he was thoroughly Presbyterian. Ginny's mom and dad are ordained Elders and both served as teachers, choir members, Presbytery Moderators, and General Assembly Commissioners. Ginny's mom also served as Synod Moderator and on the General Assembly Council.
After a childhood of girl scouting, church choirs and youth groups, Ginny went to college at Agnes Scott in Atlanta. Ginny spent her junior year studying philosophy in Aberdeen Scotland. After her graduation in 1972, she served as a Christian Educator in Dalton, GA. Two years later, she enrolled at Columbia Seminary. There, for the first time, she "felt centered in God's plan" for her. Ginny remembers her seminary time as good years, especially 1976 when she married Harry Ellis, a PhD Physicist from Georgia Tech.
After graduating from Columbia Theological Seminary, Ginny and Harry moved to St. Petersburg, Florida where Harry joined the physics faculty at Eckerd College and Ginny worked at Peace Memorial Church in Clearwater.
In 1980, Ginny was delighted to find herself called by God to part-time interim ministry. For the next five years, served five different churches as an interim. She enjoyed the interim role and enjoyed the opportunities, challenges and variety it gave her.
In 1985, Ginny accepted a call to serve as pastor at Bayshore Presbyterian
Church in Tampa, Florida. That year, Harry and Ginny moved to Tampa. After
serving at Bayshore Presbyterian for 19 years, she felt a new call from God
and left Bayshore to return to interim pastoral work.
In 2004, Ginny accepted a call to serve as full time interim pastor at Village Presbyterian Church in north Tampa. Ginny again enjoyed the challenges her interim role gave her and enjoyed the good people at Village Presbyterian Church. In 2005, Ginny finished her work at Village Presbyterian and received a new call to serve here at the Presbyterian Church of Bloomingdale.
Besides serving here at PCOB, Ginny is a member of a Covenant Group of colleagues who pray together twice a month. She also coordinates monthly meetings of the Presbytery's interim pastors. Ginny and Harry have three children, Luke, Rachel and Seth, and a grandchild, Noah. Ginny enjoys reading, refinishing furniture, doing electrical repairs and occasional travel.
Ginny brings pastoral care to our members and visitors growing out of God's call on her life and her many varied experiences. We feel blessed to have Ginny here at the Presbyterian Church of Bloomingdale.
